About the Argentina Program Buenos Aires, long considered the Paris of Latin America with its French-inspired architecture, has also emerged as South America's central hub for media and journalism. Journalism students who are seeking professional experience while developing or solidifying their skills with the Spanish language, will find that Buenos Aires is the city that best suited to them. The opportunity to do so in the cosmopolitan richness of Buenos Aires, makes this a once in a lifetime experience. The internship-based program allows students to work at media outlets throughout the city, where they are often able to complete two internships. Participants in the program will earn journalism elective credit and three hours of Spanish elective credit. Students have the option to include an additional upper-level social sciences course focused on the influences of media and gender in Latin American culture. |

The program is facilitated by an on-site director who also serves as an instructor in the program. University of Missouri Spanish courses are instructed by faculty from Universidad Austral.
This program includes a media excursion outside of Buenos Aires. The destination varies; past destinations have been Santiago, Montevideo, or Bariloche. Travel and lodging costs for the media excursion are included in the cost of the program.
Area
Buenos Aires, the second largest metropolitan area in South America, is a city composed of color and culture. The city is a vast network of unique neighborhoods that make it easy to find just the right place for whatever mood strikes. There are fashionable boutiques and galleries under wrought iron lanterns along the winding streets of Sant Elmo. Tree-lined boulevards adorn the residential areas of Recoleta and Palermo, while a funky and colorful landscape filled with eclectic performers and artists abound in La Boca. The Missouri School of Journalism maintains offices alongside the spectacular views on the waterfront in Puerto Madero. In every way, Buenos Aires is a cosmopolitan city that is set to impress. Just beyond the city, the countryside of Argentina is equally breathtaking. Students can explore the power of the Iguazu Waterfalls or the impressive heights of the Patagonia Mountains. A welcoming, safe and vibrant location awaits our students.

Costs
The Missouri School of Journalism attempts to make the costs of studying abroad affordable. Generally, study abroad experiences cost a bit more than credits taken on-campus at MU, but include new experiences, cultures, and oftentimes housing, or other program-related costs. It is highly recommended that students outline a budget that includes what would be spent during a semester on-campus at MU and compare it to study abroad costs. The fee for this program includes housing accommodations, access to University of Missouri office space, and on-site assistance by a professor. You will also be billed MU educational fees (12-15 credits depending upon enrollment in the optional WGST 4965 course). In addition, you will also pay an MU Study Abroad fee of $75 for MU orientation, administration, and assistance. Other expenses you will want to consider include airfare, meals, local transportation and other miscellaneous expenses.
Please note that there are scholarships and other financial options available to you to help make study abroad a part of your college experience.
