Photography in Germany
Working overseas could be in any photojournalist’s future. Advance your ability to research, source, plan and execute overseas assignments and projects by traveling in Germany this summer as one of a small group of 10-12 students led by photojournalism professor Rita Reed.
Students participating in the program will learn how to maximize freelance opportunities and organize professional travel, as well as meet and network with photographers at the 2012 Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism in Hannover. Students will then travel to Hamburg, Germany's publishing and media capital, to tour German publications and meet German picture editors. The last week will conclude with a trip to Munich, the capital of the southern region of Bavaria, for intensive workshops in documentary and freelance travel photography.

Costs
The Missouri School of Journalism attempts to make the costs of studying abroad affordable for you. Generally, study abroad experiences cost a bit more than a summer semester completed on-campus at MU. However, a summer abroad includes new experiences, cultures, languages, and an opportunity to explore the world as an international student. It is highly recommended that students outline a budget that considers what they might spend during the program. Students on this program pay MU educational fees (3 credits) as though taking classes on campus for the summer. The cost of the trip includes international travel, ground transportation, lodging, mandatory insurance and a $500 MU Study Abroad fee, which is applied toward costs associated with orientation programs, administration, and staff assistance.

Financial Aid
The financial aid awarded for classes at MU is typically applicable to study abroad. Additional grants, loans or scholarships may be available to offset the extra costs of studying abroad. Students participating in summer programs abroad should meet with an advisor for study abroad financing at the MU Financial Aid Office (11 Jesse Hall) for more complete information: 573-882-7506. The School of Journalism offers study abroad scholarships each semester. Applications should be completed as part of the complete study abroad application process and submitted with other application documents. Students can apply for additional scholarships through the MU International Center (Memorial Union). Housing Students participating in this program will live in hotels and hostels as they travel across Germany. While housing at these locations is clean and safe, it is important for U.S. students to remember that accommodations outside of the States are smaller and generally more spartan that what they may find at MU. Upon acceptance to the program, students will receive additional information regarding housing. |
