Jaipur Literature Festival Intersession Program

The Jaipur Literature Festival, one of the largest such exhibitions in the world, brings over 400,000 attendees from around the globe to meet with hundreds of authors, journalists, politicians, and icons. In January, our students will again become part of this storied event. As credentialed media members of the festival students will spend two weeks working with Teamwork Arts to manage media strategy and/or report from the festival. Roles students may have include:
- Social media strategy
- PR and media relationships
- Short and long-form print stories
- Podcasting
- Videography
- Photography
Jaipur, India: The capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur is a blend of ancient history and modern economy. Known as the Pink City for the rosy tone of the building materials for much of its architecture, Jaipur boasts monuments still standing from over 1,000 year ago nestled within modern shopping districts and colorful outdoor markets. It is one o the most important cultural and economic centers in India and the entire world, home to 8.6 million Indian citizens. Come climb the Amber Fort, breeze through the Palace of Winds, gaze upon the Jantar Montar, and eat your way through some of the best food in India while you experience a fun, friendly nightlife.
You will earn three upper-level journalism specialty area credit hours on this program (graded A-F). The course will be taught by an MU faculty member and will incorporate the Latin American perspective on journalism, as well as its importance and influence on media worldwide. You will see firsthand how newspapers, magazines, television stations and advertising agencies are run in other countries. Students will complete a final project pertaining to their sequence upon returning from the program.
Undergraduate applicants with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who have completed either J4200 (Principles of Strategic Communication) or J4180 (Newsroom Content Creation). Applicants who will complete one of these courses in the semester/term preceding the term for which they are applying will be considered for conditional acceptance to the program.
All students must be in good academic standing. If an applicant has a GPA below a 3.0, a letter of appeal should be included with their application.
Applicants should compose a well-constructed resume and cover letter highlighting technical skills for use in the professional placement process. Students should also consider developing a portfolio to provide, if requested.

The Missouri School of Journalism attempts to make the costs of studying abroad affordable for you. It is highly recommended that students outline a budget that considers what they might spend during the program. Students on this program pay MU educational fees (3 credits) as though taking classes on campus for the spring. The cost of the trip includes international travel, ground transportation, lodging, mandatory insurance, and an MU Study Abroad fee, which is applied toward costs associated with orientation programs, administration, and staff assistance.

In addition to the program costs paid to MU, you will have expenses associated with international travel and living abroad. The amounts listed are estimated costs based on current exchange rates and on the information provided to us by past participants. Depending on your personal spending habits, you may spend more or less than the figures provided.

You will be staying in safe and accessible accommodation during the trip. Hotels are located in the city and there are nearby cafes, restaurants, shops, sights and access to public transportation.
