Monteverde, Costa Rica: A mountaintop town settled amidst several cloud forest reserves, this town is a focal point for environmental research and tourism in Central America. Abundant wildlife adds an interesting dynamic to daily life in the township which boasts first-rate scientific research facilities as well as friendly shops, adventure tourism opportunities, astoundingly fresh cuisine, and excellent coffee. Spanish is helpful but not required as the friendly and welcoming citizenry often have strong english language. When you stay in Monteverde, you start and finish your day in the cloud forest but are afforded incredible views of the mountains around you.
Buenos Aires, Argentina: The Paris of South America, the capital city of Argentina is rich with history and boasts a complex culture that has folded in customs and traditions from around the world as it has welcomed immigrants to the city. The city houses vibrant neighborhoods that proudly showcase street art and artists and favors a European cafe culture with a focus on sitting outside and drinking coffee and mate. The city is sports and politics obsessed with one of the greatest rivalries in South American football as well as politically active and engaged citizenry. The culinary landscape is as diverse as its citizenry with influences from around the world.
