Prague
The McCann-Erickson: Prague program is the second of our Strat Comm trio. The format of the program is the same as Hong Kong. Students will be working in the McCann-Erickson offices for the 10th year in a row as teams put together a campaign for one of the major clients in the region. There will also be plenty of time to travel, shop, and visit many parts of Southeast Asia.
The final two weeks of the program offer a slower pace as students take a Czech culture and history course at Charles University, the most prestigious higher education institution in the country. Students will learn about the culture they are living in, make several out-of-class excursions, and will have plenty of time to travel and see the multitude of castles, breweries, museums, and more that make this city a hub for European travel.

Want to participate in multiple locations?
We think this is a great idea! Not only would you get to see an entirely different part of the world, but you would also get to collaborate on advertising campaigns in two completely different types of markets. Attending multiple program locations adds a breadth of challenge and diversity to your resume that no other experience will match.
Students can elect to participate in one of the three program locations or they can participate in two consecutive programs locations, meaning they can choose to start in Hong Kong and end in Prague OR start in Prague and end in Tokyo. Students may not combine all three program locations.

Prague
Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, is home to nearly 1.25 million people and is located in the northwest portion of the country on the Vltava river. Its name is believed to be derived from praga, a Slavic root word meaning “ford,” referencing the city’s location on the river. The city’s native name, Praha, also has connections to the Czech word práh meaning “threshold.”
The rulers of the Premyslid dynasty first established Prague around the 9th century with the founding of Prague Castle. Under the rule of Charles IV in the 14th century, the city transformed into a royal capital and grew to be the third largest European city. With the founding of Charles University in 1348, Prague is home to the oldest university in Central Europe. Fast forward to the end of World War I and we see Prague selected as the capital of Czechoslovakia until the Slovak Republic was established as a separate country on December 31, 1992.
Since then, Prague has commonly been referred to as a cultural center of Europe featuring several historically significant cultural attractions, including: Charles Bridge, the Jewish Quarter, Old Town Square, Prague Castle, Lesser Town, the Spanish Synagogue, and more.
While walking around and enjoying the sights during the summer months, you can expect the temperature to rise to the low 70s during the day and cool off to the 50s at night. The Prague Metro and tram system make it easy to travel around the city and access every destination on your bucket list.

The Missouri School of Journalism attempts to make the costs of studying abroad affordable for you. Generally, study abroad experiences cost a bit more than a summer semester completed on-campus at MU. However, a summer abroad includes new experiences, cultures, languages, and an opportunity to explore the world as an international student. It is highly recommended that students outline a budget that considers what they might spend during the program. Students on this program pay MU educational fees (6 credits) as though taking classes on campus for the summer. The cost of the trip includes international travel, ground transportation, lodging, mandatory insurance, and an MU Study Abroad fee, which is applied toward costs associated with orientation programs, administration, and staff assistance.
