Florence is serves as the heart of art and culture in Italy, boasting excellence in a number of fields from food to fashion to tourism to sports. Partnering with Florence University of the Arts, the Global Programs Office is offering students the opportunity to undertake internships on and off campus, gaining real-life experience in the Italian media landscape while enjoying this historic city.
Students will work a minimum of 30 hours a week, or four full days. Participants are placed in journalism, media, and communications outlets with the assistance of Florence University of the Arts. Applicants are encouraged to view the placement process as a job search. While these internships are completed for course credit, students should expect significant responsibility and real-world challenges working at the organizations partnered with FUA and embedded in the Florence community.
The program also includes a weekly seminar designed to help students better understand the media landscape and political scene of Italy and Europe. These seminars may include guest lecturers and off-hours visits to media or political venues.

A city just shy of 400,000 people, Florence famously birthed the Renaissance. While much of the city curates and showcases its enormously important cultural past, it has also kept up with the modern evolution of Europe. The result is an interesting melting pot of the old and new, a city with art and beauty at every turn with all the comforts and luxuries anyone might need to feel at home.
Florence boasts world-class shopping (ranked as one of the 15 most important fashion cities in the world), incredible art exhibits, and eclectic dining options. Students can spend an afternoon admiring priceless works of art in the Uffizi Gallery, walk along the River Arno taking in the Palazzo Pitti, or enjoy an evening swept away in the emotion of a classic opera at the Teatro della Pergola.
As a transportation hub, Florence acts as a nexus for all major Italian cities, which are accessible by efficient and affordable train networks in the country. Many major European airlines also fly into the Florence airport, affording easy transportation to most parts of Europe. While the city is extremely walkable, residents also make use of an extensive bus system to move quickly from home to work.

The Missouri School of Journalism attempts to make the costs of studying abroad affordable for you. Generally, study abroad experiences cost a bit more than a summer semester completed on-campus at MU. However, a summer abroad includes new experiences, cultures, languages, and an opportunity to explore the world as an international student. It is highly recommended that students outline a budget that considers what they might spend during the program. Students on this program pay MU educational fees on all credit hours as though taking classes on campus. The cost of the trip includes international travel, ground transportation, lodging, mandatory insurance, and an MU Study Abroad fee, which is applied toward costs associated with orientation programs, administration, and staff assistance.
