What internship did you choose, and what were your responsibilities?
I did my convergence capstone while in New York at a startup company (The Chisel). My responsibilities included managing my capstone team remotely; creating, strategizing, shooting and producing a marketing video; strategizing a marketing plan and social media campaign; working with a graphic designer to create social media and website graphics/design; writing content for and managing all social media accounts; and writing a strategic plan for the company to hire a social media manager.
What was the biggest lesson you learned during your internship?
The biggest lesson I learned was to be sure when you start any job or project that you and your superior clearly understand the project and expectations. When both parties have this clarity, goals can be set, met and even exceeded.
What makes the New York Program special compared to other abroad programs offered for journalism students?
The NY program is special in that you are in one of the media capitals of the world and through Reuben's class are integrated in with Mizzou alumni and other professionals on a weekly basis. This program will introduce you to the full media landscape by introducing you to people working in some of the most coveted positions and companies in the industry. The networking opportunities are endless as well!
