What internship did you choose, and what were your responsibilities?
I interned at West End Strategy Team, a strategic communications firm that raises national public awareness, influences policy at all levels, and drives social change. As a communications intern, I drafted press releases and media advisories, created pitch lists and followed up with pitch calls, worked on an extensive media pitching project for a client, created clips packets, etc. I pretty much contributed to every project that my supervisors worked on.
Why did you choose the NY Program?
I chose the NY program because I’ve always loved NYC and knew it would provide me with opportunities to advance my professional career. The networking opportunities we received were great, and the media trips we made felt really exclusive.
What surprised you most about this program?
I’d always heard how fast-paced NYC was, but nothing had prepared me for what it’s really like to work there. I’d visited before, but it’s a completely different dynamic when you’re a tourist. I was surprised with all of the experience I had under my belt after such a short amount of time. As I said above, I was very pleasantly surprised at how in-depth our media tours were. They were extensive and a great opportunity to network with higher ups in the industry.
