Why did you chose the NY Program over other programs offered?
I chose the NY program because of the amazing opportunities that the trip offers. Beyond just getting to live and work in NYC, you also get to visit extremely well-known and exciting media/advertising companies, like Buzzfeed, The Wall Street Journal, Weber Shandwick, etc. You also get to have intimate conversations with alumni and young professionals working in New York City, which builds your network and gives you people to reach out to in the future. You learn so much more than just what your internship offers.
What was the biggest lesson you learned during your internship?
The biggest lesson I learned is being flexible and adapting to whatever circumstances come up. No matter if you're at a small company or a large agency, you need to be able to jump into every situation that is handed to you and step up where you're needed. Being flexible and adapting also can be applied to the craziness that is living in NYC.
How did you grow as a person and as a professional during this experience?
Professionally, I learned so much about the industry that I'm interested in and discovered a variety of roles that I could see myself working in. I got the experience of working at an agency (Harrison and Star), which teaches you a lot about the advertising industry in general. Personally, I made some amazing friends and have memories that will stay with me forever. If someone does decide to go on this program, I highly suggest taking advantage of every opportunity possible and doing as much as you can. You'll never regret doing everything you could, but you will regret not!
